Common Reference Ranges
For fertility-related bloodwork (consult your doctor for interpretation)
| Test | Normal Range | Note |
|---|---|---|
| AMH | 1.0 β 3.5 ng/mL | Ovarian reserve |
| FSH (Day 3) | 3 β 10 mIU/mL | >10 may signal diminished reserve |
| Estradiol (Day 3) | 25 β 75 pg/mL | High may mask FSH |
| LH (Day 3) | 2 β 15 mIU/mL | LH:FSH ratio matters in PCOS |
| Progesterone (Luteal) | >10 ng/mL | Confirms ovulation |
| TSH | 0.4 β 2.5 mIU/L | Stricter range for fertility |
| Prolactin | <25 ng/mL | Elevated may inhibit ovulation |
| Vitamin D | 40 β 60 ng/mL | Optimal for fertility |
| Sperm Count | >16 million/mL | WHO 2021 criteria |
| Sperm Motility | >42% progressive | WHO 2021 criteria |

Emotional Support Strategies
Evidence-based coping tools
π§ Mindfulness β Research shows mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) can improve emotional outcomes and even pregnancy rates in IVF patients.
π¬ Therapy / Counseling β Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and infertility-specific counseling are highly effective. Ask your clinic for referrals.
π₯ Support Groups β Connecting with others on the same journey reduces isolation. RESOLVE and FertilityNetwork offer peer communities.
π Journaling β Expressive writing helps process grief, anxiety, and uncertainty.
πΆ Movement β Gentle exercise (walking, yoga, swimming) reduces cortisol and supports overall wellbeing.
π Couples Communication β Infertility strains relationships. Setting aside time to connect beyond treatment is vital.

Understanding Your Diagnosis
Common causes of infertility
PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) β Hormonal disorder affecting ovulation. Affects ~10% of women. Treatments include ovulation induction, lifestyle changes, and IVF.
Diminished Ovarian Reserve (DOR) β Reduced quantity or quality of eggs. Diagnosed by AMH, FSH, AFC. May require donor eggs.
Endometriosis β Tissue outside uterus causing inflammation and adhesions. Can affect implantation and tubal function.
Uterine Factor β Fibroids, polyps, septum, or adhesions (Asherman's syndrome) can affect implantation.
Tubal Factor β Blocked or damaged fallopian tubes. IVF bypasses tubal issues.
Male Factor β Affects ~40β50% of infertility cases. Includes low count, poor motility, or abnormal morphology.
Unexplained Infertility β No identifiable cause after complete workup. Affects ~15β30% of couples. May still benefit from IUI or IVF.
Treatment Pathway Overview
General progression (individualized by diagnosis)
Step 1
Complete Workup β Hormone panels, imaging, semen analysis, genetic screening
Step 2
Timed Intercourse / Ovulation Induction β Clomid or Letrozole + monitoring + trigger shot
Step 3
IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) β Processed sperm placed directly in uterus around ovulation
Step 4
IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) β Egg retrieval, fertilization, embryo development, transfer
Advanced
Donor Eggs / Sperm / Embryo, Gestational Carrier β When own gametes are not viable
Financial Resources
Insurance β Check your policy. Many states mandate infertility coverage. RESOLVE maintains a state-by-state law guide.
